Are the studios soundproof?Yes, Studios A and B are fully sound treated and regularly complimented by audio technicians. Obviously there will occasionally be an exterior noise that permeates the treatment like any sound-stage, but this is rare. HitMaker Studio A is highly recommended for sound production.
-
Do you have cycloramas?Yes, Studio A has both a white and a chroma-green cyclorama included in the hire. We ask which you are wanting to use so that we can set production at the opposite end. The cycloramas are approx. 12m wide, 6m high and have matching flooring of around 4m depth. There are also theatrical black curtains surrounding much of the studio included in the booking. Studio B does not have cycloramas, but does have a 5m chroma-green wall available for appropriate size angles. Also matt black walls. Paper backgrounds of 3m width (e.g. white) can be hired in consultation with the Studio Manager.
-
Where can I park?Studio A comes with 3 reserved parking spots and a loading bay that will fit approx. 2 trucks or 3 vehicles. There is all-day, free parking for many blocks. Directly outside the studio, there are 10x2hr parks for loading or short visits. There is a comprehensive parking map downloadable on the front page of this site.
-
How do you light the space? It's entirely up to you how you wish to light the space. Most Studio A bookings light from the floor, however, some circumstances dictate lighting from above. There is a non-movable grid available for a charge, and must be operated by a qualified gaffer who will take note of weight limits etc. As the grid is at 6.4m, the best way to safely access is via scissor lift hire. Studio B is lower ceiling and has a scaff grid included in the hire. Studio B operates with domestic power.
-
Can I drop off gear/props prior to my booking date?We can often organise for drop-off or delivery of medium sized items. Large and heavy props or builds will depend on studio usage at the time. There is generally a fee for early delivery on the day prior, and may require staffing modifications.
-
Can I collect gear/props after my booking date?We can often organise for the next day pickup of medium sized gear or props, but it depends on studio use at that time. We are unable to handle very large or heavy pieces. There will generally be a storage and handling fee outside of your booking, and staffing may need to be modified.
-
Where can I load in?Studio A has a same-level rollerdoor and standard door off the carpark. Studio B loads in from the front in Prohasky Street.
-
What are the power options? There is domestic power all around the building. Items being plugged in studios should be tagged and tested. Studio A has 2x32a Wilco 3-phase power available.
-
WiFiHitMaker has WiFi around the building. Codes are provided for your visit.
-
Waste disposalHitMaker allows for standard, personal waste disposal. It does not cater for larger size/volume, packaging and building waste. Please speak with the studio manager if you require specialised waste removal.
-
Can you provide crew?Yes we are freelance professionals who know what is available in Melbourne. We can source crew or equipment required with sufficient notice. HitMaker sometimes production-manages shows and is responsible for all crew and facilities.
-
Do you have disabled access?Yes, there is a permanent ramp at the front entrance, and same level access to the studios at the rear. All studio associated rooms are on the same level. There is an accessible bathroom on this level.
-
Do you have cable access?Yes, there are core drilled conduits between the Control Space and the Studios, ensuring that cables can be left out of doorways. HitMaker also has SDI and Ethernet cabling in most spaces. These require patching and should be discussed with a manager prior to the booking.
-
CateringWe can tell you about the "usual suspects" but generally do not arrange catering.
-
Do you have Production Office space?Yes, HitMaker has an entire level of furnished office space. This is available to short and medium term productions. Please discuss your requirements with a Studio Manager.
-
What are your booking lengths? As we cater for tvcs, film, television and online, we found that the best compromise is 9 hour days in Studio A. You can extend indefinitely with overtime charged at $150p/h in 15 minute increments. Bookings are from studio open to studio close. Half-days in Studio A are 4 hours, again extendable depending on other commitments. Studio B works primarily on an 8 hour day, in business hours if possible. There is a half-day option of 4 hours in Studio B. Again overtime is available depending on commitments. All ancillary spaces booked are included in overtime. Early and late starts do not necessarily attract penalties. Studio A generally operates between 6am and midnight, or by arrangement.
-
PricingHitMaker goes by the model of only pay for what you use. This means that most ancillary rooms are booked as extras. Most prices are listed on the PRICING page on this site. Production offices are negotiated according to requirements. All bookings have access to bathrooms, kitchenette, WiFi and of course the foyer.
